Ship Traffic Through the Strait of Hormuz Declines Again
This week, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has significantly decreased: from Monday to Thursday, only 33 vessels passed through the strait, compared to 50 during the same period the previous week.
On Thursday, only four vessels crossed the strait. Before the conflict began, around 130–140 ships typically passed through Hormuz each week. Shipowners continue to avoid the route due to safety risks, and Iraq is even offering substantial discounts on oil to attract buyers.
Meanwhile, Iran and Oman are discussing a temporary plan to open the strait, but negotiations are complicated by issues related to transit fees, sanctions, and vessel insurance. Brent has fallen to around $81.79 on these expectations.
